One Chapter Ends...Another One Begins

Today marks the end of a lengthy, and I would say very unexpected, journey. After seven years it is time to close the door on this little film blog known as Big Thoughts from a Small Mind. While I have loved every minute of being able to engage in film discussions with so many of the knowledgeable readers who frequent this site, it was time for a change. Fortunately, just because one chapter ends it does not mean another one cannot begin. You can still read our thoughts on all things film over at our new site:

Cinema Axis

What prompted the change? Well to be honest I have been thinking about this for over a year now. It just took some time to finally push forward and realize the idea. The primary reason was that I wanted the site to better reflect what the blog had become. For the last few years it has not been only thoughts from my “small mind”, but thoughts from various personalities and voices. There came a point a few years back where I decided that it would be more interesting to have different voices sharing their thoughts on film rather than just my own. It is a decision I am glad I made and I still embrace that philosophy today. As film bloggers we tend to start out, be it consciously or not, striving for personal glory. However, the websites that always fascinate me most are the ones where various people come together through their love of film.

I hope to continue to expand on this collective approach even further over at Cinema Axis. It will take time, but I know we will get there. Besides the desire to be more encompassing of the voices on this site, a change was needed functionally behind the scenes to make the overall look and feel of the blog closer to what I had envisioned in my head for several years. I will be the first to admit that I have never been the most tech-savvy individual. As you loyal readers already know, Big Thoughts from a Small Mind’s strength was always its content and not its design. By switching sites, I now have a little more freedom in regards to the things I want to do behind the scenes. It may be a while before all my visions come to fruition, but at least we are one step closer.

As I mentioned earlier, it has been an unexpected path that has brought me to this point. To be honest, I never envisioned when I first started blogging this site would impact my life the way it has. Not only have I been exposed to some truly wonderful films, but I have made a slew of friends worldwide who all share the same passion for film. Considering that this is only the close of one chapter, and there is still much more of the book to go, I will not get all sentimental and weepy. Really, the highs and lows that come with film blogging will be different for each blogger. However, I would like to take a quick moment to thank a few people who have had an impact on the blog over the years.

The first thank you must go out to my wife. Not only has she been supportive of my film obsession from day one, but she has also been a sounding board for many of my posts on the site. I must also say thank you to all the current and past contributors to this site. Your dedication and creativity has brought a unique flavour to this site. A special thanks must go out to my pal, and film blogger supreme, Ryan McNeil. A constant source of inspiration to continually do better, Ryan was instrumental in introducing me to the Toronto film blogging community. It is a moment that has had more influence on me than he will ever know. Of course I cannot forget my fellow film bloggers, including those over at The LAMB, who continually expose me to aspects of cinema that I had not considered before. Lastly, and most importantly, I want to give a big THANK YOU to all the loyal and casual readers of this site. It has been a pleasure engaging in thoughtful cinematic discussions with you all. Hopefully you will continue to follow us in our next chapter over at Cinema Axis, where all things film converge!

Sincerely,

Courtney Small
