  1. Easy. Washington.

  2. Based on acting abilities, Denzel. Based on star power, Willis, although that has fade. But I much prefer the movies Bruce Willis has been in.

    1. This is exactly the reason I picked this particular paring. I assumed most would instantly pick Denzel Washington based on acting, but I figured the results might be different if people took into account whose films they are more likely to seek out/re-watch.

  3. Based on talent - Denzel. Based on quality of films they star in - Bruce.

    1. Although Washington has been in several great films, Willis seems to have been in more iconic films by pop culture standards.

    1. If you really think about it, Bruce is far more versatile than most give him credit for being.

    2. I thought the same thing! Looking over the list you realize Denzel acts within a narrow range. It's not for lack of ability; it just seems more like he chooses his roles with more care.

Willis doesn't care as much, and I think it's to his credit. He can pull off quietly dramatic roles (Sixth Sense, Unbreakable) but he can also head up an action movie, and show off a little sense of humor.

  5. Based on talent and the quality of films, probably Denzel Washington. He hasn't been in a lot of stinkers while he also proves to have more range.

Yet, I give Willis more credit in being funnier as he's done more comedies than Washington. Plus, I really loved his performance in Moonrise Kingdom.

  6. gonna go Willis. Moonrise and Training Day cancel each other out...then Willis has 12 Monkeys and Fifth Element to rival Inside Man

  7. We're asking the question: which performer is better, yes?

If so, it's Denzel. Willis has simply has had the better fortune to star in some brilliant pieces of cinema.

    1. The question is really which of the two do you prefer? How each person defines that is really up to them. I see your point about Willis having the better fortune though.

  8. Denzel wins purely for his performance as The Mighty Quinn. I saw that film recently and wish I'd recorded it on my set top box. Pure fun.

    1. I quite enjoyed The Mighty Quinn, I am surprised more people have not seen the film.

  9. I feel like I'm not fully qualified to judge here as I haven't seen most of Washinton's most acclaimed work (Malcolm X, Training Day, Glory etc.). But from what I've seen, I'd have to go with Willis. He makes for a great action lead, of course, but he has shown talent in other genres as well. The Sixth Sense, of course, but also in an unexpectedly great scene in Fast Food Nation.

    1. While I was not fond of Washington’s work in Training Day, I would highly recommend Malcolm X, Glory and Cry Freedom.

  10. Interesting match-up, but I'm going with Denzel here. Haven't really enjoyed much of his work in the past few years, but Malcolm X, man. Malcolm. X.

    1. Malcolm X is his greatest performance. Washington really deserved the Oscar for his work in that film.
