  1. Both very capable actors but Gyllenhall wins with a narrow victory. He's just a better leading man than JGL.

    1. I think the release of Looper will solidify JGL's leading man status.

  2. I'll have to go with JGL. That scene when he's about to go in for surgery in 50/50 is pitch-perfect, and he has plenty of other strong performances too. Not taking anything away from Gyllenhaal, though, who is great particularly in Brokeback Mountain, Donnie Darko, and Jarhead.

    1. 50/50 is one of the few JGL films I still need to see.

ooooh, a good face off with equal lists.

Gonna go with JGL for 50/50, inception, tdk, and 10 things... over JG's Jarhead, Brothers, and Zodiac. Haven't seen Donnie Darko.

    1. Donnie Darko is a film you should see. I still think it is Richard Kelly's best film to date.

  4. A few years ago I might have said Gyllenhall, but 50/50 made me a huge JGL fan. I have to go with him based on that performance alone.

  5. Good face off. Looks like they're both capable of turning in indie, genre, and mainstream work. They'd actually make a great on-screen duo now that I think about it...

    Gotta go with JGL.

    1. I would love to see a film with both of them in it. I think they would play off each other very well.

  6. Wow... two very good actors. I like Jake Gyllenhaal but JGL is just the motherfuckin' bomb! Dude can do the musicals, do intense dramas, can kick some ass, and not make a fool of himself the way Jake did in that awful Prince of Persia film.

    1. Prince of Persia was unfortunate for all involved.

  7. Since I watched Mysterious Skin, I'll have to say Joseph-Gordon Levitt, I was more than impressed by his performance.
But Jake Gyllenhaal is an amazing actor too, I just haven't seen enough of his films to be able to call him a favourite.

  8. I'm going with Joseph Gordon Levitt. So far he's shown a better range of roles than Jake.

Both good actors, but Jake Gyllenhaal wins it: Brokeback Mountain, Jarhead, Zodiac, Source Code and Donnie Darko. JGL doesn't quite match that yet.

    1. I know several people who did not find Source Code all that great but I really enjoyed it.
