Both very capable actors but Gyllenhall wins with a narrow victory. He's just a better leading man than JGL.
ReplyDeleteI think the release of Looper will solidify JGL's leading man status.
DeleteI'll have to go with JGL. That scene when he's about to go in for surgery in 50/50 is pitch-perfect, and he has plenty of other strong performances too. Not taking anything away from Gyllenhaal, though, who is great particularly in Brokeback Mountain, Donnie Darko, and Jarhead.
ReplyDelete50/50 is one of the few JGL films I still need to see.
Deleteooooh, a good face off with equal lists.
ReplyDeleteGonna go with JGL for 50/50, inception, tdk, and 10 things... over JG's Jarhead, Brothers, and Zodiac. Haven't seen Donnie Darko.
Donnie Darko is a film you should see. I still think it is Richard Kelly's best film to date.
DeleteA few years ago I might have said Gyllenhall, but 50/50 made me a huge JGL fan. I have to go with him based on that performance alone.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely try to watch 50/50 in the next week or so.
DeleteGood face off. Looks like they're both capable of turning in indie, genre, and mainstream work. They'd actually make a great on-screen duo now that I think about it...
ReplyDeleteGotta go with JGL.
I would love to see a film with both of them in it. I think they would play off each other very well.
DeleteWow... two very good actors. I like Jake Gyllenhaal but JGL is just the motherfuckin' bomb! Dude can do the musicals, do intense dramas, can kick some ass, and not make a fool of himself the way Jake did in that awful Prince of Persia film.
ReplyDeletePrince of Persia was unfortunate for all involved.
DeleteSince I watched Mysterious Skin, I'll have to say Joseph-Gordon Levitt, I was more than impressed by his performance.
ReplyDeleteBut Jake Gyllenhaal is an amazing actor too, I just haven't seen enough of his films to be able to call him a favourite.
Mysterious Skin has been in my Netflix queue for months, really need to watch that film.
DeleteI'm going with Joseph Gordon Levitt. So far he's shown a better range of roles than Jake.
ReplyDeleteI think Jake has shown his range in films like Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac, and Source Code fairly well.
DeleteI vote for Gyllenhaal for Brokeback Mountain alone.
ReplyDeleteLoved his performance in Brokeback Mountain, such a beautiful film.
DeleteHe was great enough in Brokeback and Zodiac that I gotta go with Jake.
ReplyDeleteBoth of those are fantastic films.
DeleteBoth good actors, but Jake Gyllenhaal wins it: Brokeback Mountain, Jarhead, Zodiac, Source Code and Donnie Darko. JGL doesn't quite match that yet.
ReplyDeleteI know several people who did not find Source Code all that great but I really enjoyed it.
