Festival News: Shinsedai Announces Opening and Closing Night Films

The Shinsedai Cinema Festival announces 2012 opening and closing night films!

The Shinsedai Cinema Festival recently announced Yu Irie's 2011 irreverent rock comic/ drama Ringing in Their Ears and Masafumi Yamada's surreal, haunting and darkly humorous Tentuski as the festival’s opening and closing night films.

Ringing in Their Ears
Directed by award-winning indie phenome Yu Irie (8000 Miles) the film follows real-life rockers Shinsei Kamattechan as they go from indie stardom to a major label commodity. Interwoven into their struggle to stay true to their music are the fictional lives of some of their most unusual fans.

Ringing in their Ears will screen at The Revue Cinema (400 Roncesvalles Ave.) on Thursday, July 12th at 7:00PM.

Reminiscent of the quirky dream logic of the films of David Lynch and Takashi Miike's Gozu, Tentsuki will take audiences down the dark corridors and back alleys of love, lust, murder and magical transformation. Noboru is running for his life from a pair of yakuza loan sharks. He ends up hiding out in a rundown rooming house in a mysterious area of Kyoto not listed on the city maps. It's here, and at his new job as a security guard on a construction site, that he encounters a cast of unusual characters.

Tentsuki will screen at The Revue Cinema (400 Roncesvalles Ave.) on Sunday, July 15th at 8:00PM.

Tickets and passes for the 2012 Shinsedai Cinema Festival go on sale June 21st. For more information on the festival be sure to visit the Shinsedai Cinema Festival website.
