The Guard

This is a buddy cop flick that I am dying to see. The odd couple style chemistry that Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle really comes through in the trailer.

Could this film be one of the sleeper indie hits of 2011? John C. Reilly seems perfectly cast in the role of a school principal whose personal life is just as messed up as Terri’s, one of the students he befriends. Newcomer Jacob Wysocki may be an actor to keep an eye on in the future.

  1. Dude. The Guard has a killer cast. Thanks for bringing that movie to my attention! I love both Cheadle and Gleeson, so I'm psyched to see them together.

  2. The Guard looks like great fun. Saw the trailer yesterday before Midnight in Paris (watched it a second time ;p)

  3. "The Guards" trailer is meh ... but I can't wait for the film.

As for "Terri" looks like your standard indie-comedy/real life inducing type film. Luckily, those are the types of films I typically connect with.

    Good post.

  4. @M.Hufstader – The pair of Gleeson and Cheadle really sold me on the film. The Irish backdrop is icing on the cake.

@Castor – You saw Midnight in Paris twice? Did it hold up the second time around? I still need to see that film and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. Somehow I feel behind in my Woody Allen films...not acceptable.

@Duke – I think The Guard trailer is effective enough. Gives a good idea of the plot and offers up just the right amount of humour.

I am a fan of films like Terri as well. There is often a universal appeal to these films. Everyone has had moments, especially in their teens, when they thought life was a lot worse than it actually was.

  5. The Guard is great. Really funny twist on the buddy cop flick. Gleeson is front and centre and he gives a great performance. Cheadle's role is confined a little more than you might think. Certainly worth checking out.

I didn't see Terri at the SFF. Hey, I couldn't see everything :-p

  6. @Andy - So jealous that you got to see The Guard already! Sounds like SFF had a great selection of films this year.

  7. Can't wait to see The Guard! Looks like a blast!

  8. @Ty – Hopefully it will be a sleeper hit similar to In Bruge a few years back.
