Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Although I was secretly hoping for something more along the lines of the The Simpsons’ Planet of the Apes musical, I must admit that I am really looking forward to this film.

Abduction

This film feels like a cross between Hanna and Enemy of the State. Taylor Lautner will have an uphill battle convincing people that he is a viable action star. Still, the strong supporting cast leads me to believe that this film might actually defy the skepticism many will have going into the film.

  1. Rise of Planet of the Apes seems interesting although I'm too skeptical about when the film will fail.

Abduction. Oh Hell No. The trailer gave too much away and Taylor Lautner. Give me a fucking break. I'd rather watch a competent actor read a phone book for 90 minutes.

  2. Abduction is a pretty hilarious trailer. I wanted to give Taylor Lautner a fair shot but I couldn't help laughing throughout. Watching him trying to act was just too much.

  3. Rise of The Planet of The Apes looks pretty ridiculous, when watching the trailer I felt like I'd seen pretty much all of those shots before in other Hollywood films...
I'm not really looking forward to it.

  4. @thevoid – Knowing Hollywood, they will probably have Lautner read the phone book instead. He comes at a much cheaper rate and is proven to bring in the female customers. LOL

@Castor – The Abduction trailer tries a little too hard to sell Lautner as a mini-Tom Cruise. The major difference being that Cruise had to prove his acting chops before landing the plum action roles. I predict there will be at least three shirtless scenes in the film to please Lautner’s fanbase.

@Jack – I immediately got a Peter Jackson’s King Kong vibe when they show part of the breakout scene in Apes.

  5. hehehe I liked the Apes trailer. LOL

I am such a low brow movie lover. I just can't break free from my blockbuster routes and branch out into films that require intelligence.

I always opt for the easy route....Such a pleb.

  6. @Custard – Blockbuster definitely have their place in cinema. I have been watching a lot of documentaries for my Hot Docs coverage next week and I am starting to crave some blockbuster fare. Just to shake things up a bit.

  7. Apes looks ok, but other than some nice visuals it doesn't really excite me.

Abduction doesn't look that bad imo. I like the action story concept and the Sleigh Bells song in the trailer. I could do without Lautner's squish face and parkour skills but otherwise it looks like an alright action flick.

  8. @French Toast - The visuals are definitely the main reason to see Apes.

If Abduction had a different actor instead of Lautner, it would probably garner a lot more buzz.
