Movie Marketing Monday

The Three Musketeers

Is it just me? Or is this film trying really hard to cash in on the success of Pirates of the Caribbean. There is something about the look of the film that feels more like Pirates and less like Musketeers.

13 Assassins

Although already on demand in certain markets, Takashi Miike’s latest film hits theatres at the end of April. I tried to get tickets for this at last year’s TIFF, but the film sold out quickly. Needless to say this is high on my list of films to see in 2011

  1. Three Musketeers is going to be crap, there is no question about it...
13 Assassins is one of my most anticipated films this year though, I can barely wait!!

  2. I agree, The Three Musketeers movie will be crap. I'm not a fan of Paul W.S. Anderson though I do have a soft spot for Event Horizon.

13 Assassins however, looks really fucking cool.

  3. I am planning on watching 13 ASSASSINS this week! I can't wait to watch it, it looks like a modernized, higher production value version of Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI! Hell yes!

THE THREE MUSKETEERS definitely put out a good trailer... I'll probably end up seeing it, even though it will most likely be an average movie. (I look forward to seeing MILLA JOVOVICH as Lady D'Winter!)

  4. @Jack – The Three Musketeers will be a rental for me, cannot justify paying to see it on the big screen.

@thevoid – I thought Event Horizon was awful. The Paul W. Anderson film I have a soft spot for is the first Resident Evil flick. It was not a great film but I enjoyed it.

@Rachel – Look forward to reading your thoughts on 13 Assassins. I also got the Seven Samurai vibe from this trailer as well. As for The Three Musketeers, the casting choices are good but I am just not excited about the idea of yet another Three Musketeers movie.

  5. I too had the same gut feeling about Those damned Musketeers. I had avoided the trailer until it was forced on me and now I am sure it is going to be a plop "jumping on the band wagon" Pirates film.

    13 Assassin's looks interesting though.....

  6. @Custard – I think there should be a limit on how many times a source material can be adapted. There are only so many ways you can tell the same story.

  7. @CS Did you ever see the cartoon series "Dogtanion and the Three Muskahounds"? By far the best telling of the story :)

  9. @Custard - Have not heard of "Dogtanion and the Three Muskahounds" but the title has me intrigued. Might have to see if it is available on Netflix up here.

  10. I didn't even know there's going to be a 3 Musketeers .. It has some really shizzzly actors and a few good ones (Mikkelsen, Waltz) but I don't think they can save it : - (

  11. @Anna – While it is nice to see Bloom acting again, the trailer does little to highlight the acting talent in the film.
