Movie Marketing Monday

The Smurfs

Okay, it does not look as bad as I thought it would. I do not expect this film to be great by any means, but it actually looks better than the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies.

Conan the Barbarian

The teaser trailer does not succeed in getting me pumped for this film at all. If you are going to remake an iconic film, you need to give me some solid reasons to go along for the ride a second time. Conan should be in the forefront of this trailer. Sadly the smoke gets more screen time than the lead actor.

  1. The Smurfs is going to be terrible, I've never liked the comics and I don't see why they were adapted to the screen...

Conan the Barbarian will most likely be bad, it has the potential to be a fun action film but I think it will be disapointing.

  2. Both trailers suck!!!!!

The Smurfs looks really bad. Then again, it's from Raja Gosnell who has never made a good movie in his life.

The remake of Conan looks very silly.

    I'd say skip 'em.

  3. @Jack – There was no need to adapt The Smurfs at all, but since Hollywood has make a ton of money off of the Chipmunks franchise, it was a given this would come out. I would not be surprised to see a Gummi Bears movie come out in a few years. Conan trailer reminds me of 10,000 B.C., which itself was an awful film.

@thevoid – I won’t be wasting my money on either film. I just found that The Smurfs trailer did not irk me as much as other 80’s cartoon adaptations (Scooby Doo, Garfield, etc).

  4. I think Gosnell's "Never Been Kissed" was kinda good.
Anyway both movies look awful haha! Although The Smurfs somehow looks less evil. I wish I don't ever have to choose between the two though.

  5. @Jose - I have to agree with you on Never Been Kissed. It was a decent film that was more entertaining than I expected. The rest of Gosnell's canon is pretty dreadful though.

  6. I was never into Smurfs even as a kid so I don't think I'll be seeing the movie. As for Conan, I used to love Conan the Destroyer when I was in Jr High, not sure why, it's not like I had a crush on Arnie or whatever. But now I have zero interest in this remake, I mean, Jason Momoa is gorgeous but now that he's bulked up so much he kinda looks weird.

  7. @Ruth – Although I enjoyed the cartoon growing up, there is absolutely no need for a Smurf movie. Even as a kid I did not want to see a Smurf movie, like I did the G.I. Joe animated movie and the Transformers animated movie.

As for Conan, Jason Momoa is rather new to me so I cannot say whether or not he is the right choice for the role. I just do not see the need for a remake.
