Movie Marketing Monday

X-Men: First Class

X2 was the only film that I actually like in this franchise. The one thing that has my interest about this reboot is the casting of James McAvoy as Professor Xavier and Michael Fassbender as Magneto.

Jane Eyre

Fassbender pops up again in this star-studded film. While I enjoy the Jane Eyre story, I wonder if there will ever be a big screen remake of Wide Sargasso Sea?

  1. Jane Eyre might be tricky as you suggest. I LOVE their choice of Fassbender but I feel Wasikowska is such a dull choice. May she prove me wrong...

  2. I've seen that trailer for Jane Eyre a lot lately. I hope it would be good as I'll wait for what the critics think.

As for X-Men First Class. I don't have high expectations considering that the third X-Men movie was a disappointment and that Wolverine movie is in my list as one of the worst films ever. Again, I'll wait for what everyone else thinks though I do like the cast.

  3. Oh, Fassy. Do grace our screens soon.

This is the first time I'm anticipating both a costume drama and a superhero movie at the same time. Well done, all involved.

  4. I definitely like the look of the x-men movie.

The Jane Eyre movie isn't really marketed at culturless apes like me so I shan't comment.

  5. @Jose – I feel the same way about Wasikowska. She is a good actress but she has not really "wowed" me in any of her roles to date. Who knows, maybe this is the film that will win us over.

@thevoid99 – It is amazing to think how many times this story has been adapted for the big screen.

As for X-men, I agree that X-men 3 and Wolverine were awful. I can only hope that they reboot the franchise in a similar way to Nolan's rebooted the Batman series. If they actually focus on the characters, and not the special effects, then the film might actually be good.

@Simon – This will definitely be the year when Fasssbender becomes a household name. He has six films slated to come out this year!

@Dan – Let’s hope the X-men film lives up to the trailer. Matthew Vaughn's other films (Layer Cake, Stardust, and Kick-ass) were all pretty decent. So I will go into this one with a positive outlook.

As a cultureless ape myself, I still plan to take a chance on Jane Eyre. Who knows? They might through in a kung-fu scene in the middle. LOL

  6. I’m happy that they released this trailer cause this does look very cool and exciting now. The casting of younger actors is what may help this film out in the long run, mainly because McAvoy and Fassbender have proven to be amazing in their own films, so it’ll be cool to see how they do with a superhero script. Can’t wait for this!

  7. @CMrok93 – Marvel really seems to be pushing the youth movement with all their franchises. This makes since from a marketing standpoint. Still, it all comes down to the script at the end of the day.
