Movie Marketing Monday

Cars 2

Behind A Bug’s Life, Cars was my second least favourite of the Pixar canon of films. Cars 2 on the other hand looks like it might actually be a vast improvement on its predecessor. I really like the James Bond angle of the trailer. Sure the spy stuff was already done in The Incredibles, but hopefully Cars 2 will bring something new to the genre.

The Mechanic

I like that Ben Foster is in this film. Foster is one of the best young actors working today in my opinion. Plus, Jason Statham has proven many times that he can deliver on the action front.

  1. I think the problem with Cars is that they aren't really that interesting and all they can do is either go fast or not go fast and their world wasn't that interesting either.

I like Foster too. He's got a lot of fire in him and he isn't in enough these days and he's in even less that is actaually good.

  2. @Mike - The world of Cars was rather lifeless compared other Pixar film. I was surprised that they made a sequel but I guess the toys sold well.

In regards to Foster, I was hoping The Messenger would finally make him a household name but I do not think enough people saw that film.

  4. @AngryMovieLurker - The casting in this one leads me to believe that it might be a level above Crank and/or The Transporter series. Though I thought the same thing about the Death Race trailer...boy was I wrong on that one.

  5. In a sick twisted way I actually kind of like Crank 2 and made me think if it is right to like something for pushing movies in a direction they've never been before, even if it's in a direction you don't really want them to go.

  6. @Mike - I am constantly amazed by the number of people I meet who really enjoyed Crank 2. I never understood the appeal of the series. I like Statham but I thought both films tried too hard to break the rules. The films ended up being cartoony, but not in a good way.
